MINI –ASSIGNMENT

Youth Media Exchange (ymex.org) is a new and unique online social network for youth focused on digital media production and global issues.

Its goal is to inspire, inform and involve engaging youth in thinking critically about the use of digital media to share information and create products focused on relevant global issues of our time, as well as create valuable documentation for researchers and practitioners.

Ymex.org members within learning environments and/or on their own will be engaged in activities, contests, and mentoring programs designed to develop critical media literacy skills. The site will be equipped with easily-accessible information on global issues as well as tools and resources necessary to build their capacities as digital media creators and consumers.

Ymex.org will work with schools, after school programs, and youth media organizations to engage high school aged youth in a series of online educational activities described below. By creating collections of related resources and media, developing and displaying projects with peers in other countries, and responding and reflecting through online discussions, youth will build the digital media literacy skills and knowledge necessary for university and work in a global age.

Inquiry-driven projects, including community-based action-oriented projects. Collaboration and mentorship with peers globally. Group critique and critical reflection
The site will use tools of learning for the youths in the field of global awareness and cross-cultural skills. Creativity and innovation. Critical thinking and problem solving. Communication and collaboration. ICT literacy, self-directed learning and leadership & responsibility.
